Each Windows 7 disk or installation includes a unique product key which validates your copy of Windows as genuine. Without a product key Windows 7 can only be installed for a 30-day evaluation period after which you'll have to either enter a valid product key or cease using some Windows 7 features. Unfortunately for some Windows 7 users a lost or missing product key must be replaced with a new product key in order to continue using Windows.
