How to Make a Chalk Texture in Illustrator

Written by sarah schreiber

One of the advantages of using Adobe Illustrator to create graphics and drawings is its ability to display textures. Using the "Effects" menu when a document is set to RGB allows you to duplicate the look of chalk. You can use this chalk effect on any line or text in the program.

Open a new document. Select the RGB colour option.

Select a colour using the colour picker tool. Click on the paint brush or pencil tool from the "Tools" menu.

Draw a shape or write text.

Highlight the writing or drawing with the selection tool.

Select the "Chalk" option from the "Effects" menu. This transforms your drawing into a chalk texture.
