A ZIF connector secures the ribbon cables of various components to ports on computers. For example, the keyboard on your laptop connects to the motherboard via a port on the top of the computer, and a ZIF connector locks the ribbon cable to the port. If you need to remove a component locked to a ZIF connector, you can unlock it in a matter of seconds.
