The HTC Hero is a smartphone that uses Google's Android operating system. Android connects with Google's servers to provide basic services like a calendar, e-mail and contact management. When you enter a contact into your Android phone, it's automatically saved to the Google Contacts account connected to your Gmail account. By using a desktop or laptop computer, you can download a CSV backup file from the Google Contacts Web page to import into another phone or e-mail application.
