The PCSX2 0.9.7 emulator is a capable PlayStation 2 emulator that allows you to play PS2 games on your computer using the computer's hardware as if it were a PS2 console. Unfortunately, the PS2 controller does not connect to any computer ports. The PS3 controller, however, does have a USB interface, which means it can be used to play games on your computer. Unfortunately, the PS3 controller is not a plug-and-play device when it is connected to a computer. You must first set up new drivers using a program called MotionInJoy.

  1. 1

Connect your PS3 controller to your computer with its USB cable and allow your computer to automatically install the basic USB input drivers. This will not make your PS3 controller usable on the computer yet.

  2. 2

Download the MotionInJoy drivers for your PS3 controller. If you running 64-bit Windows, only download the x64 version of MotionInJoy. If you are running 32-bit Windows, only download the x86 version. Check on the Windows installation box to see whether your copy of Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit. Double-click the downloaded file to install it on your computer.

  3. 3

Run the "DS3 Tool" that was installed. Click the "Load" button on the DS3 Tool main window and the new USB drivers will be downloaded and installed.

  4. 4

Click the "Home" button in the DS3 Tool window, click the "Analog Gamepad 2" option and click "Enable" to activate the PS3 controller on the computer as a usable USB gamepad.

  5. 5

Launch PCSX2 0.9.7, click the "Config" button on the top menu and click the "Configuration" button on the context menu. Click the "First Controller" button and a window will come up with a PS2 controller image on it with each button on the picture as clickable. Click each button one at a time on the picture and press the corresponding button on the connected PS3 controller.

  6. 6

Click "OK" when you have finished mapping each button to the proper button on the PS3 controller. You can now start a game and use the PS3 controller as the gamepad.
