Turbans were popular in the 1940s, and again in the 1970s. The turban is once again enjoying renewed popularity as a fashion accessory. Nowadays, numerous ways to wear a turban abound, such as tying it sleekly and sophisticatedly around your head or puffing it up by tying a large bow. Regardless of how you decide to wear it, you don't need to spend money on a turban if you already have a scarf in your wardrobe.

  1. 1

Lay a large silk scarf out in front of you, face down. Turn it slightly so it makes a diamond shape. Pull the top point of your diamond to the bottom point of your diamond. You now have a triangle.

  2. 2

Lay the now folded, triangle-shaped silk scarf over your head. The top point of the triangle should fall over your forehead, dead centre. The right and left points of the triangle will be of equal length on either shoulder.

  3. 3

Pull the right and left points up over to the top of your head, crossing them over each other just above your forehead. Pull them back down, behind your ears, to the nape of your neck, knotting them together tightly.

  4. 4

Pull the piece of scarf that lays over your forehead outwards as far as it will go. This will smooth any bumps or folds in the fabric.

  5. 5

Fold this piece of fabric backwards, tucking it in underneath the crossed sections of fabric at the top of your head that you made in Step 3.
