How to Draw Wheat

Wheat fields can be used for inspiration to draw a farm scene or rolling countryside. Wheat is not a complex thing in nature to draw, but it does have a certain degree of difficulty if you are looking for the more realistic piece of art. The most important thing in art is to use a pencil that easily erases so that if you make a mistake, you can go back and erase rather than start all over again.

  1. 1

Start by drawing the stem with a pencil by drawing a horizontal line in the centre of your sketch paper. Have the top of your stem curve slightly to the right or left. Place a second horizontal line directly next to the first line.

  2. 2

Draw a narrow oval on top of your horizontal line to create the stalk. Repeat the process for multiple pieces of wheat or if you are drawing an entire wheat field.

  3. 3

Use a pencil to draw small teardrop shapes inside the stalk. Fill the entire stalk with the small teardrops. Draw curved lines that move outside of the stalk just at the tip of the teardrop shape.

  4. 4

Trace over the pencil with a permanent marker. Fill in the lines with colour or leave it in black and white.
