You can put those old magazines to good use by making a recycled paper vase. Since glossy magazines aren't waterproof, you can use a glass or plastic bottle or a jar as a liner. The paper is formed around the liner for a beautiful vase that is made up of folded paper coils. This project is a simple way to add some interest to your home decorating and to reuse items that would otherwise have to be recycled or thrown away.

Things you need
- Hot glue gun, glue sticks
- Glass or plastic bottle or jar
- Découpage paste
- Foam craft brush
Tear out the pages from a magazine. Try to tear out the pages as neatly as you can. Ragged edges won't impact the outcome of the project.
Fold the pages in half lengthwise. Fold them in half four more times. You should have approximately 1/2-inch wide strips the length of a magazine page's width.
Take one strip and coil it in a tight spiral to form a base the size of the glass or plastic bottle or jar liner. Apply glue to the inside edges of the paper with a hot glue gun as you coil it around. Join another strip if you need a larger coil to complete the base.
Place the liner on top of the coiled base. Add a strip around the bottom so that it overlaps the base by approximately 1/4 inch. Glue the inside edge of the paper as you coil it around the liner so that it fastens to the liner and the base.
Continue overlapping strips around the liner as you work your way up until you reach the top edge of the liner. Make sure you glue and press the folded strips tightly against the liner.
Wrap a final strip around the lip to add some depth to the top edge of the vase. Apply glue to the back side of the strip as you wrap it.
Brush on an even coat of découpage paste over the entire outside of the vase. Use a foam craft brush to apply the paste. This will create a durable finish on the exterior of the vase.
