Any time a user visits your Web page and mouses over an image or word that is a hyperlink, the browser will show the URL of that link. In some situations, you may not want to show the user what that URL is -- particularly if the URL name includes key words that you do not want for the user to see until he actually clicks on the link. You can use some JavaScript code to hide a URL when it is moused over.

Instructions

  1. 1

    Open the HTML page on which you want to hide the URL on the mouse over and locate the hyperlink.

  2. 2

    Delete the hyperlink and insert this code instead:

    <a onMouseOver='window.status="";

    return true' onMouseOut='window.status="Done";

    return true'

    href="http://www.myurl.com">

    http://www.myurl.com</a>

  3. 3

    Replace both instances of "http://www.myurl.com" with the actual URL of the hyperlink.

  4. 4

    Keep the section inside the quotation marks after "window.status=" blank. When this is blank, it means no text will show up on the mouse over.

  5. 5

    Publish the page.
