A growing number of people now access the Internet through a wireless network, whereas in the past they connected to wired connections such as dial-up, DSL and cable modems. Wireless networks are convenient ways of browsing the Internet from anywhere in your home or office. Compaq Presario CQ50 laptop owners must unlock (or "enable") their wireless cards before connecting to a wireless network. Press the wireless button on your computer. It is located to the right of the power button just above the keyboard.
Left-click on the "Network" icon located in the system tray.
Click on an available wireless network. Then click "Connect" and enter the wireless network password. Obtain the network password from the Internet service provider or your network administrator. For example, if your cable company set up your Internet connection (as many cable companies do), the cable company is your Internet service provider.
Click "OK" after entering the wireless network password in the window that appears.
Open your Web browser to access the Internet. For example, launch Internet Explorer by clicking "Start," "All Programs" and selecting "Internet Explorer."
