A Honda vehicle, whether a car, SUV or truck, has several electrical connectors. The connectors connect the wiring for each component to the vehicle's main wiring harness. Depending on the component, the connector may be a plastic snap connector, or it may be one that requires removing a nut, or both. The plastic connectors are easily broken, so care must be taken when working with them, as they are not easily replaced, and without them, the connector will come apart. If the connector doesn't stay together, depending on the component, the vehicle will not even run.

Using your fingers, pry apart the tangs on the sides of electrical connectors found on sensors. The tangs are stiff, so if your fingers cannot do the job, use a common screwdriver to gently pry the tangs apart. Pull the engine harness side of the connector off the component side of the connector.
Remove the bolt holding the wire onto the component. The back of the alternator usually has a plastic plug in connector and a wire held on with a nut (the power wire). Remove the nut with a socket or wrench, then slide the wire off the stud. Always put the nut back onto the stud so you don't lose it. It can be difficult to find a nut with the same threads, and you don't want to have to delay the completion of the repair to look for a nut.
Remove the bolt on the connectors for the computers with a socket. Depending on the year and model, the computer could have one or more connectors. It could have one or more bolts. Once the bolt has been removed, you can pull the connectors straight off the back of the computer. Take care to pull the connectors straight off, so you don't bend the pins. In addition to the bolts, these connectors may or may not have tangs on the sides of the connectors.
Tips and warnings
- Before removing the connectors on the alternator, distributor or computer, always remove the negative cable on the battery. You don't need to remove the battery cable if you are working with electrical connectors on sensors or the air compressor.
