If you wish to surprise a friend with a unique birthday present, make her a piece of origami cake instead of buying her a piece of traditional cake. There are many varieties of origami cake but a simple, triangular slice of cake is the easiest shape to create. You may wish to use origami paper in light, pastel hues to create a paper cake that appears a similar colour to a real cake.

Grasp a square piece of paper and fold it in half so that the blank side of the paper is no longer visible. Fold it in half again, horizontally and unfold the paper. The paper should look like an accordion with four equal columns.
Fold the paper in half so that the fold if perpendicular to the columns and the blank side of the paper is no longer visible. Fold the paper in half again, lengthwise and unfold it. It should now look like a grid with 16 even squares.
Turn the paper backwards so that the blank side faces you. Create a fold between the middle of the left side and the centre of the bottom-right square, on the right edge of the paper. Turn the paper over so that the bottom edge is not the top edge and make the fold again. Unfold these two folds.
Create a fold between the middle of the third box, in the right-most column and the second box in the bottom row. Turn the paper over and make the same fold on the opposite side.
Turn the paper over so that pattern side faces you. Push the top-right corner inward, so that the edges of the square touch. This creates a diagonal fold in the square. Repeat this fold with the bottom-right corner.
Grasp the other end of the cake with one hand on the top and one hand on the bottom. Press the top into the bottom, creating a fold where the edges of the paper meet. Push the left-tip of the paper inward to create a sharp, triangular point.
Turn the paper over and set it on a table. It is now a piece of cake. To make an entire cake, create six pieces of cake and arrange them in the shape of a cylinder.
