While you can upload an unlimited amount of photos to Facebook, only one serves to represent you all over the site as your profile picture. Your thumbnail image is a smaller version of your profile picture, and appears next to your name near every comment you leave on another user's profile or posts you initiate from your own profile. When you select a new profile picture, Facebook automatically generates a miniature version, or thumbnail. If you are unhappy with how the thumbnail is cropped, adjusting the image is quite easy.

Log in to your Facebook account and click on the "Profile" link in the upper right side of the screen to visit your personal profile.
Hover your mouse over your full size profile picture, located on the left side of your profile.
Click on the "Change Picture" icon that appears.
Click on the blue "Edit Thumbnail" link just below your profile picture.
Click on the thumbnail image and move your mouse around to adjust the picture. When you are satisfied that the thumbnail image is in the right position, click "Save."
