How to check recent home sale prices in my neighborhood

With the ups and downs in the real estate market, timing is critical in buying or selling a home. Recent sales in your area are a good indicator of a home's market value. An easy comparison is to find a similarly sized home that recently has been sold. Web sites such as Trulia and Zillow provide a free database of home sales.

    Trulia

    Navigate to Trulia.com.

  2. 2

    Click on the Recently Sold tab.

  3. 3

    Enter the neighbourhood address.

  4. 4

    Choose the type of property. Some choices are single-family home, multi-family home, condo, loft or apartment. This is optional.

  5. 5

    Choose the price range of the home (optional).

  6. 6

    Choose the number of bedrooms (optional).

  7. 7

    Choose the number of bathrooms (optional).

  8. 8

    Choose a time frame to search within (optional). The options are within the last three months, six months or nine months.

    Click on Search.

    Zillow

  1. 1

    Navigate to Zillow.com.

  2. 2

    Enter the neighbourhood address in the Find Homes box.

  3. 3

    Click on Go.

  4. 4

    Check the Recently Sold box on the left side.

  5. 5

    Uncheck the For Sale, For Rent and Make Me Move boxes. View the listings at the bottom of the window.
