Marbled nail polish may appear complex, but the technique is one of the most simple nail art designs to implement. Adding nail polish to water and stirring the colours causes marbled swirls to appear at the surface. You can dip real or artificial nails into the marbled water to make fashionable nail art. Use one colour or as many colours as you like for a subtle design or a psychedelic fashion statement.

  1. 1

Pour 2 inches of water into a margarine tub or another clear or white plastic container.

  2. 2

Add a few drops of nail polish to the water. Stir the water with a toothpick to make a swirled design.

  3. 3

Dip your fingers or fake nails into the clearest part of the water, avoiding the solid swirls. Remove your fingers immediately after making contact with the water. Allow the water and polish on your nails to dry completely.

  4. 4

Dip a cotton swab into nail polish remover and rub it along your cuticle and skin surrounding your nail to remove excess polish. Do not rub the polish remover on your actual nail.

  5. 5

Brush a coat of clear nail polish on your nails to seal in and protect the swirled design.
