How to Watch Netflix From Abroad

Updated March 23, 2017

Netflix, a subscription-based online streaming media content provider, is a convenient way to watch movies and television shows on your computer or other Internet connected device. If you travel outside the U.S., however, it's not normally possible to access the Netflix site. If you want to view Netflix content while in another country, you need to use a proxy service that offers secure socket layer (SSL) compatibility, which allows safe access to Netflix. A proxy service supplies an Internet protocol (IP) address from the U.S. so you can access websites like Netflix.

Launch Internet Explorer and navigate to a Web proxy site.

Sign up for the service. You'll receive an e-mail upon completion of your payment with details of the proxy server information.

Click "Tools" on the main menu bar of Internet Explorer.

Click "Internet Options" from the drop-down list.

Click the "Connections" tab, then click the "LAN Settings" button in the Local Area Network (LAN) section.

Click to check the "Use a Proxy Server for your LAN" box, then type the address of the proxy server in the "Address" box.

Type the port number into the "Port" box.

Click the "Advanced" button to enter the individual proxy address for secure connections if required to access your Netflix account. Enter the address supplied by the service in the "HTTPS" box. Click "OK" to save changes.

Launch a new browser window and type the Netflix URL in the address bar.

Sign onto Netflix and watch your movies and television shows as usual.
