If you would like to have the 4.6 operating system (OS) on your BlackBerry phone, you may install it using BlackBerry Desktop software. With BlackBerry Desktop, you have the ability to install software and updates, back up your phone and restore your phone. BlackBerry Desktop lets you choose which OS you want to update on your phone.

Instructions

    Download BlackBerry Desktop to your computer. Save the file to your desktop.

    Double-click the file. Read and accept the terms of agreement. Save the software to a folder on your computer's hard drive.

    Double-click the BlackBerry Desktop software on your computer to launch it.

    Plug the USB cable into your BlackBerry 8800. Plug the other end into your computer's USB port.

    Click "Device" and "View Versions" on BlackBerry Desktop. Click on the 4.6 OS and click "Install."

    Choose to back up your phone before installing the update. You may back up your contacts, applications and calendars. Click "Install Update." Wait for the installation to complete. This process may take up to an hour.

Tips and warnings

  • Do not disconnect your BlackBerry during the installation. This will damage your phone.
