Granny squares are made up of single and double crochet. Many novice crocheters make their first afghan out of granny squares, but you aren't limited to afghans. As you become more advanced at crocheting, you might like to make a granny square hat or skirt. Granny squares can take many forms. Some are made with flowers crocheted into them. The following granny square pattern is the most basic and uses one colour of yarn. The size of crochet hook is given, but if you are more comfortable using a different size, feel free to do so.
