Of all the creatures in the sea, the shark is one of the most recognisable. The feared and revered animal can often be spotted above water by its triangular dorsal fin cutting through the waves. When creating a shark hat, use this iconic fin as inspiration, as well as some of the shark's rows of teeth. With a few materials found at home, including a paper plate and ribbon, you can create your own shark hat from scratch.

Cut a piece of sturdy paper, such as construction paper, into a square to create the dorsal fin. To make a square, fold the bottom left corner of the paper diagonally upward to the top of the sheet. When the left edge of the sheet is level with the top edge, fold the crease. Use scissors to snip away excess paper on the right side of the sheet that's not covered by the fold.
Create teeth for your shark hat by cutting out triangles from paper. These chompers can be as pointy or dangerous-looking as you wish.
Colour your materials for the shark hat. Make sure your paper plate and square paper are the same colour, such as blue or grey, and decorate the paper used for teeth with white or silver. You can use paint or markers to cover each piece of the design, or glue on aluminium foil for a shiny wet look.
Fold the square piece of paper in half so that it's shaped like a triangle on either side. At the wide base of the triangles, fold the paper up about a half-inch. This will create a surface that you can easily attach to the hat.
Make small folds in the teeth that can be attached to the hat's rim by folding a small section of the top of the tooth backward.
Glue or tape the folded edges of the dorsal fin to the top of the paper plate. Ensure the paper's fold is facing forward. Use glue or tape to attach the teeth along the front rim of the paper plate, too.
Staple a ribbon to the hat as a chin strap. Start with about a half-yard of ribbon and cut it in half. Staple one piece to the right side of the shark hat and the other piece directly across from it on the left side. Tie the pieces in a bow when the hat is worn.
