The Hewlett Packard PSC 2210 uses its scanner to make copies of original documents as well as store digital copies of documents on the attached computer. Scanner error messages will appear on the PSC 2210 display screen, alerting you that the scanner is not functioning properly. Before you take the printer to a repair shop, fix what you can at home to save yourself the cost and time of having a professional look at the printer.
Check the computer's task bar to make sure the Digital Imaging Monitor icon appears on the bar, indicating the program is running. If you do not see the icon, click the Windows button on the task bar, then type "msconfig" in the "Search" box and press the "Enter" key.
Click the "Startup" tab in the window that opens. Click on the box next to "HP Digital Imaging Monitor" so a check mark populates the box, then click the "Apply" button and then the "Close" button.
Click "Restart" to reboot the computer, then try scanning again once the operating system has loaded. If the same error message appears again, click the Windows icon, then click "All Programs" then "HP" then "HP Solution Center."
Click the "Settings" tab in the new window, then click "Scan Settings." Select "Scan to... Set-up" to open a new window. Click the destinations you wish scans to be sent to in the box on the left side of the window, then click the arrow button to move the destinations to the list on the right side of the window. Click the "Update the Device" button.
Reset the printer if the problem continues. Click the Windows icon button and then "Restart." Make sure the PSC 2210 is turned on, then pull the power cord out of the back of the printer and then the electrical socket. Plug the power cord back into the printer and then the electrical socket after at least 30 seconds have passed. Wait for the printer to display "Ready" on its screen before attempting to scan again.
Leave the original document on the scanner glass. Press the "Color Copy Start" button and slightly lift the scanner's cover to see if the scanning light under the scanning glass illuminates.
Reset the printer if you do not see a light under the scanning glass. With the PSC 2210 turned on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and then the electrical socket. Wait 30 seconds or more, then plug the power cord back into the printer and then the electrical socket.
Examine the printer's power cord connection if you do see a light under the scanning glass. Press the "Power" button to turn off the PSC 2210, then remove the power cord from any surge protector or battery backup it is plugged into, plugging the power cord directly into an electrical socket.
Unplug the power cord from the outlet if you receive the same error. Plug a lamp into the electrical socket to test if it is functioning. Plug the printer into a different electrical socket.
