Nortel Networks manufactures a number of telephone systems, primarily designed for use in business environments. Each Nortel Networks phone system has a slight variation in features and functions, such as the number of phone extensions available in the system or network connectivity. However, all the Nortel systems share the same instructions when it comes to the basic functions of the phones. The basic instructions for a Nortel Networks phone are fairly straightforward.

    Plug the telephone cord cable into the "L1" port in the back of the Nortel Networks phone base, then plug the other end of the cable into the telephone wall jack.

    Plug the power cable into the "Power" port in the back of the phone base, then plug the other end of the cable into the wall outlet.

  3. 3

    Lift the handset or press the "Intercom" button, then dial an extension number to call an internal extension in the system.

  4. 4

    Lift the handset and press the "Transfer" button. Dial an extension number. Then press the "Join" button to transfer a call to another extension.

  5. 5

    Press the "Check Voicemail" button, then enter the password into the phone pad to listen to voicemail messages.
