If you are looking for an educational and engaging craft activity to lead your children in on a rainy day, consider making a fire hose craft that features a fire hydrant and a fire hose attached to it. You can make this craft with materials that you already have around your house. You may need to purchase a few extra sets of shoe laces -- which will form the fire hose in the craft.

Things you need
- Craft paper (various styles and colours)
- White craft glue
- Shoe lace
Place a red piece of craft paper on your work space. Use a pencil to draw a vertical rectangle aproximately the size of your hand.
Cut out the rectangle with a pair of scissors.
Draw two circles and one oval on the red craft paper. Cut them out with the scissors.
Glue the oval on top of the rectangle. Glue the two circles on the left and right sides of the rectangle. This is your fire hydrant base.
Draw a circle in the middle of the rectangle with a black marker.
Punch a hole in the centre of the black circle on the fire hydrant. Slip the end of a yellow, black, white or red shoelace through the hole. Tie a knot at the end of the shoelace through the hole so it does not come out of the hole. This is your fire hose connected to the fire hydrant.
