How to Use Italics in Second Life

Updated March 23, 2017

Second Life is an online role playing game/community that lets you develop a character, choose his or her appearance and travel the Second Life world to meet new friends. The Second Life chat box is the most common way to communicate in the game, although voice chat is available. HTML coding is not allowed in the chat box, so you cannot use the HTML "Italic" tag. You can, however, use the whisper function to type a message in italics. Whispers can be heard within 10 meters, rather than 20 meters, like normal messages.

Open Second Life and sign in to your account.

Click on the chat box in the lower-left part of the screen.

Type "/whisper" followed by the phrase you want to type. Hit "Enter" to type the message in italics.
