How to Convert Ounces or Grams Into Cups

Updated April 17, 2017

Grams, ounces and cups are all units of measurement that are used in recipes. Ounces are a U.S. standard measure of weight, while grams are a metric system measure of weight. Cups are the easiest amount to measure in a kitchen, where a scale might not be readily available. There is some estimation in the conversion, because grams and ounces are measures of weight, while cups are a measure of volume. Therefore, estimation between ounces and fluid ounces is required.

Multiply the number of ounces by 0.125, which is the number of cups per ounce. For example, 454gr multiplied by 0.125 equals approximately 2 cups.

Divide the value in grams by 28, which is the number of grams per ounce, to find the number of ounces. For example, 168 grams divided by 28 equals approximately 170gr.

Take the resultant value from Step 2 and multiply it by 0.125 to find the number of cups. For example, 170gr multiplied by 0.125 equals approximately 0.75 cups, or 3/4 cup.
