The Skype Internet calling application includes a browser add-on for Internet Explorer that transforms phone numbers found on websites into click-to-call links that enable users to quickly call numbers using Skype. Some users report that the Internet Explorer add-on slows down Internet Explorer performance and causes the browser to become unresponsive. You can disable or uninstall the Skype add-on in a few simple steps.

Skill level:

    Disable Skype Add-on

  1. 1

    Launch Internet Explorer.

  2. 2

Click the settings icon at the top-left and select "Manage Add-ons."

  3. 3

Select "Skype Add-on" and then click "Disable."

    Uninstall Skype Add-on

  1. 1

Click "Start" and select "Control Panel."

  2. 2

    Click "Uninstall a program."

  3. 3

Select "Skype Web Features" and then click the "Uninstall" button.
