You can use optional Apple earphones with a remote control to change the songs playing on your iPod Shuffle, a portable music player made by Apple. Although you may find it convenient to use the earphone buttons, you don't need them to change songs on your Shuffle. The iPod Shuffle has no display, so you press buttons to skip forward or backward through your songs, or to select different playlists of songs.

Instructions

  1. 1

Slide the three-way switch on the top of the device from the "Off" right position to the middle position to play songs in order or to the left position to play songs in random shuffle mode on your iPod Shuffle.

  2. 2

Press the "Next/Fast-Forward" button on the front of the iPod Shuffle to advance to the next track.

  3. 3

Press the "Previous/Rewind" button within the first six seconds of playing a track to go to the previous track. If you press the "Previous/Rewind" button after six seconds have elapsed, the current track restarts. Immediately press the "Previous/Rewind" button to go to the previous track.

  4. 4

Press the "VoiceOver" button on the iPod Shuffle to hear the names of playlists on the device. When VoiceOver announces the name of a playlist whose songs you want to hear, press the "VoiceOver" button or the "Play" button to select it and start hearing the songs.
