Beaded toe rings and thong anklets can be worn for a simple afternoon at the beach or for your own beachside wedding in the Caribbean. Make these barefoot sandals with simple coloured beads for a colourful jewellery accessory or create an elegant keepsake with crystal beads, pearls and semi-precious stones. You can make a couple of pairs for yourself to become familiar with the craft and then consider making some for a special friend's birthday gift.

Instructions

  1. 1

Measure the circumference of your second toe and cut a piece of elastic jewellery cord to this measurement plus 1 inch.

  2. 2

Fill the piece of cord with seed beads, leaving 1/2 inch of cord empty at each end. Tie the ends into a knot to make a ring shape and thread the cord back through the bead holes to hide the cord.

  3. 3

Measure the circumference of your ankle and cut a piece of elastic jewellery cord to this measurement plus 2 inches.

  4. 4

Fill the cord with seed beads, leaving 1/2 inch of cord empty at both ends. Tie the ends together and thread the ends back through the beads.

  5. 5

Measure the distance from your second toe to your ankle. Cut a piece of elastic jewellery cord to this measurement plus 1 inch.

  6. 6

Add a crimp end to one end of the cord and attach it to the toe ring. Thread the cord through the crimp end, wrap the cord around one side of the toe ring and thread the cord back through the crimp end. Pinch the end closed with a pair of crimping pliers or needle-nose pliers.

  7. 7

Fill the cord with seed beads or medium-size crystal beads, leaving approximately 1/2 inch of cord at the end.

  8. 8

Add another crimp end and attach it to the anklet. Thread the cord through another crimp end, wrap the cord around the anklet and thread it back through the crimp end. Squeeze it shut with the pliers.
