Whether you are putting together a lion costume for a school play, Halloween or for your child's dress-up trunk, you do not need to spend hours at a sewing machine. Repurposing items from around the home saves time and money. You can make the lion any colour you want depending on the fabric you have on hand, and your child can help.

Things you need
- Solid-colour hooded sweatshirt
- Hot-glue gun
- Glue sticks
- Solid-colour sweatpants
- Mittens or gloves
- Black eye liner
Cut at T-shirt into between 24 and 30 1-in. by 4-in. strips, for the mane. Reserve the rest of the shirt for the tail.
Make the mane by laying the sweatshirt on a clean work surface with the hood opening facing up. Smooth the bonnet opening into a circle.
Arrange the T-shirt strips along the hood opening in a single layer with one end on the rim of the hood and the other end pointed outward. (Alternate the strips if you are using more than one colour.) Attach the ends of the strips around the hood opening with hot glue. Leave the opposite ends loose.
Arrange the remaining strips on top of the first, filling in the spaces between them. Attach the ends of the strips to the first layer with hot glue.
Cut a 12-in. by 2-in. strip from the T-shirt for the tail. Affix one end of the strip to the center back of the sweatpants with hot glue.
Cut a 3-in. heart out of the T-shirt material and hot-glue the heart to the loose end of the tail.
Wear a pair of gloves or mittens to cover your hands. Draw whiskers on your cheeks and colour the tip of your nose with the black eye liner.
