With modern electronics and computer technology, it is easier than ever to connect a laptop to a television. Whether you would like to use your television as a monitor or watch movies in high-definition, connecting your netbook is a relatively simple process. Using the VGA output from your netbook, you can connect it either into a VGA input or RCA input on your television.

  1. 1

Check your television for a blue VGA input. If your television has one, you can connect a VGA computer monitor cable into it and the VGA output on your netbook.

  2. 2

Look for a white HDMI input on your television. If your television does not have a blue VGA input but does have a white HDMI input, you can connect your netbook to it with a VGA computer monitor cable that has an HDMI adaptor on the television end.

  3. 3

Connect your netbook to your television with a VGA-to-RCA cable adaptor, in the absence of a VGA or HDMI input. The blue VGA portion of the cable will connect to your netbook, and the red, yellow and white RCA end will connect to the RCA input on the television.

  4. 4

Restart the netbook once it and the television are connected via the appropriate cable. Some laptops will not automatically recognise the TV as a monitor. If this is the case, go to "Control Panel" and to access the display settings on your computer. Select your TV under the display source drop down menu and click "OK." The image from your laptop should appear on the TV.
