An uncomplicated fastener for a necklace can be made from seed beads and a flat button. This loop fastener makes putting on a necklace as easy as buttoning a shirt. The handmade fastener can be attached to an existing necklace or used to finish a handmade necklace. The seed bead and button fastener also can be used on bracelets, which are often difficult to fasten with one hand. A decorative or vintage button will add a design element to the necklace or bracelet.

Instructions

  1. 1

Thread the beading needle with 24 inches of beading thread. Insert the needle into a bead on the end of the necklace. Wrap the thread around the bead several times and knot the thread.

  2. 2

Attach the button to the same end of the necklace with the needle and thread, knotting the thread securely before cutting it.

  3. 3

Insert the needle into a bead on the opposite end of the necklace. Wrap the thread around the bead several times and knot the thread.

  4. 4

Thread enough seed beads on the thread to make a loop that will fit over the button. Thread the needle back through the end bead, knot the thread securely and cut it.
