How to Use Google Maps on the Kindle

The Amazon Kindle is capable of performing many functions beyond the standard eBook reading, thanks to its built-in wireless Internet card, including the ability to use Google Maps. While the Google Maps integration on the Kindle is somewhat limited compared to the Web-based and smart phone applications available, it can be used to plot driving directions and find nearby businesses.

    Press the "Menu" button and select "Experimental" using the five-way controller.

    Select "Launch Browser" from the "Experimental" menu.

    Press "Alt" and "1" together to display your current location in Google Maps.

  4. 4

    Scroll right using the five-way controller to search for directions using your preferred method of transportation.

    Press "Alt" and "2" together to display nearby gas stations on the map.

  6. 6

    Press "Alt" and "3" together to display nearby restaurants.

  7. 7

    Press "Alt" and "5" together to search nearby custom keywords.

Tips and warnings

  • Bookmark the Google Maps page for easy access in the future by pressing the "Menu" button and then selecting "Bookmark." The page will be accessible through the Web browser available in the "Experimental" section of your Kindle.
