With the release of the iPhone on Verizon's CDMA network and the release of iOS 4.3 on AT&T's GSM network, Apple included the ability to tether an iPhone to a computer. Tethering allows you to use the iPhone's cellular data connection to surf the Web on the computer. You can tether an iPhone to your Mac Mini and give your computer Internet connectivity in a few simple steps.

Instructions

    Via Bluetooth

  1. 1

    Tap the "Settings" icon on the iPhone's home screen, followed by the "General" option. Tap the "Bluetooth" option and slide the "Bluetooth" setting to the "ON" position.

    Click the "Apple" icon on the computer's menu bar and select the "System Preferences" option. Click the "Bluetooth" option beneath the "Internet & Wireless" heading.

    Click the "+" icon to open the Bluetooth Setup Assistant. Click on the iPhone's entry in the list of detected devices and click the "Continue" button. When prompted, enter the PIN displayed on the Mac Mini into the iPhone and tap the "Pair" button. After pairing is successful, click the "Quit" button in the Bluetooth Setup Assistant window.

    Tap the "Settings" icon on the iPhone's home screen, followed by the "General" option. Tap the "Network" option and then the "Personal Hotspot" option.

    Slide the "Personal Hotspot" setting to the "ON" position. When prompted, tap the "Bluetooth" option to tether the iPhone to the Mac Mini via a Bluetooth connection.

    Via USB

    Tap the "Settings" icon on the iPhone's home screen, followed by the "General" option. Tap the "Network" option and then the "Personal Hotspot" option.

    Slide the "Personal Hotspot" setting to the "ON" position. When prompted, tap the "Wi-Fi and USB Only" option.

    Connect the iPhone to the Mac Mini via the iPhone connection cable that came with the device to tether it to the Mac Mini via USB.

    Via Wi-Fi

    Tap the "Settings" icon on the iPhone's home screen, followed by the "General" option. Tap the "Network" option and then the "Personal Hotspot" option.

    Slide the "Personal Hotspot" setting to the "ON" position. When prompted, tap the "Wi-Fi and USB Only" option.

    Click the "AirPort" icon in the computer's menu bar and select the iPhone from the list of Wi-Fi connections to tether the Mac Mini to the iPhone via Wi-Fi.
