Garmin periodically provides you with maps to upload to your Garmin NAVTEQ device. Sometimes, the maps may not match the formatting settings on your Garmin GPS. Fortunately, Garmin will help you convert the maps for use. Updating the maps regularly on your device allows you to use the updated features of your device, such as turn-by-turn directions and points of interest. You can update your Garmin NAVTEQ's maps through the Garmin website.

Download Garmin Maps to NAVTEQ Converter. Download the file from the garmin.com website. Save it to your computer's desktop.
Plug the USB cable into the bottom of your Garmin NAVTEQ device. Plug the other end into your computer's USB port.
Double-click the Garmin NAVTEQ Convert icon. Install the software to your computer's hard drive.
Launch the Garmin NAVTEQ software. Locate the menu on the left side of the interface. Click "Open" to select your maps.
Click on "NAVTEQ" from the drop-down list. Select the output format in the right side of the menu.
Click "Apply Convert" to convert maps to NAVTEQ format. Save the newly formatted maps to your computer's hard drive.
Right-click and copy the maps in your computer's hard drive. Click "Computer" and "Start." Open your Garmin folder and paste the maps into the folder. Disconnect your device.
