NetGear DG834 is a wireless Internet router that you can connect to a cable modem. Your computer needs to have the DG834 firmware installed. If it doesn't install this automatically when you try to connect, you can do it manually from the NetGear website.

Determine what model of the DG834 you have. It will say "v1," "v2," v3," or "v4" on the label on the underside of the device.
Go to the NetGear website. Click your DG834 model number.
Click "Firmware Version 5.03.16 (for users in North America)" or "Firmware Version 5.03.16 (for users outside North America)."
Click the "Click here to download" button. Note where you saved the download.
Open your browser and go to the following address when the download completes: http://192.168.0.1. You will have to be within range of the router for these steps.
Enter "admin" for your user name and "password" for your password.
Click "Router upgrade."
Click "Browse," locate the file you saved in Step 5, click "Upload." When the process is done, the firmware will be installed.
