Many children ask for a monkey cake on their birthday or other special occasion. Making a monkey face cake is easy to make with a few key ingredients and baking supplies. Your guests will enjoy looking at and eating the monkey cake you have made yourself following simple directions.
Preheat your oven to 176 degrees C. Grease a eight and a half inch, three quart stainless steal or oven proof bowl along with one cup in a large muffin tin.
Mix together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and cinnamon in a medium mixing bowl. Mix together bananas, buttermilk and vanilla in another bowl. Mix together butter and brown sugar in a third larger bowl, adding in the eggs as the mixture becomes fluffy. Combine the flour mixture and the banana mixture to the butter and sugar mixture alternating as you add.
Pour batter into the greased muffin tin, about three-quarters full. Pour the rest of the mixture into the greased bowl. Place both in the oven and bake the cupckae for about 30 minutes and the bowl for an hour and 10 minutes. Test each cake with a toothpick and if it comes out clear, it's done.
Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack. Cool the cake inside the bowl for 30 minutes, then remove and finish cooling on the rack.
Trim the top flat side of the cake so it's level. Repeat the process with the cupcake. Cut the cupcake in half vertically to make two monkey ears. Cut the bowl cake in half horizontally to make a place to layer additional frosting.
Spread chocolate frosting on the bottom layer of the bowl cake and place the top layer on. Cover the entire cake with a layer of chocolate frosting. Spread frosting over both sides of the cupcake and use toothpicks to secure the cupcake ears to the monkey face.
Decorate the monkey face by using yellow frosting to create the monkey's face and ears. Place a piece of black liquorice on the front, in the yellow frosting section as the mouth and two m&m candies for the eyes. Add hair to the top of the monkey's head using chocolate frosting.
