The Epson Stylus Photo 1400 is a printer specialising in full-colour photographs. Because of the amount of detail and colour that the Epson 1400 uses, you may find that the ink pads run dry more often than with other printers. Replacing the ink pads on your Epson 1400 is fairly simple. The printer itself will let you know you need to replace the ink pad by lighting up a red ink light on the printer display.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

  1. 1

Turn the printer on by pressing the "Power" button. Make sure the green power light is not flashing.

  2. 2

Lift up the printer cover and press the "Ink" button once. Wait until the ink pads are at the centre of the printer and press the "Ink" button again.

  3. 3

Open the ink pad cover and squeeze the tab at the rear. Lift it straight out.

  4. 4

Remove the yellow tape from the pad. Place the new ink pad into the printer, but do not touch the green chip on the side of the pad.

  5. 5

Push the pad down until it clicks into place. Close the cartridge cover and close the printer cover. Press the "Ink" button one final time.

Tips and warnings

  • Do not turn the power off at any point during the ink pad installation process.
