Halloween is a holiday for exercising your creativity with costumes that stand out among the crowd. Whether you are male or female, cross-dressing is a simple and inexpensive way to stretch your imagination and do something different. Dressing as half man and half woman gives you the opportunity to explore and contrast both genders. You can create a half man and half woman costume with items that are already in your closet or with items found at your local thrift store.
Find or purchase a woman's dress of any style in your size. Turn the dress inside out and make a small mark at the centre of the dress. Measure 1 inch to the left of the mark and draw a line down the entire dress. Cut the dress in half along the line.
Find or purchase a man's shirt and jeans. Turn the shirt and jeans inside out. Make a small mark in the centre of the shirt. Measure 1 inch to the right of the mark and draw a line down the shirt. Cut the shirt in half along the line.
Measure 1 inch to the right of the inseam of the jeans and draw a line. Cut the jeans in half along the line.
Place the shirt beside the dress. Use straight pins to hold the shirt and dress together. Sew the edges of the dress and shirt together either by hand with a needle and thread or with a sewing machine.
Turn the dress and shirt combination right side out and put them on. Pull on the single pant leg. Pin the pant leg to the skirt portion of the dress with safety pins. Use the extra inch of material on each side to hide the safety pins from view. Wear a pair of tight fitting shorts underneath if you are worried about the costume coming undone.
Wear a man's sneaker on the foot on the male side of your body. Wear a high heel or a woman's flat on the female side of your body.
If you are a woman, pull all of your hair over to the female side of your body. Slick back the hair on the male side of your body with hair gel. Curl your hair or wear it long and straight. If you're a man, purchase a wig and cut it in half. Fasten it to your existing hair with hair clips.
Cover the female side of your face with a foundation matching your skin tone. Colour half of your lips in a lipstick colour of your choice. Apply eyeliner, mascara and eye shadow to one eye. Add a dash of blush to the apple of one cheek.
Draw a fake moustache with eyeliner on the male side of your face or purchase a fake moustache and cut it in half. Apply the moustache to one side of your face as directed in the moustache's instructions.
Accessorise the female side of your body with an earring and bracelets.
If you're a man, shave the female side of your face before applying make-up.
