Use Adobe Photoshop to make your own gold ring, whether you consider gold rings to be "your precious" or you prefer to design your own jewellery, rather than buying something generic. Photoshop's quick-design tools can help you create an on-screen gold ring without the mining, refining or costs associated with the real precious metal.

Instructions

  1. 1

Open Photoshop. Click "File." Click the "New" option. Type the ring file's name, such as "GoldRing" into the "Name" box. Type the "Width" and "Height" options into the size boxes, such as "4" for each. Pull down the dimensions menus and click "inches." Pull down the "Background Contents" menu and click "Transparent." Click the "OK" button.

  2. 2

Double-click the "Color Picker," which is the top-left square of the overlapping squares at the bottom of the "Tools" palette. Select a gold colour -- get as close as possible, although the "Color Picker" doesn't show metal tones. Click "OK."

  3. 3

Right-click the "Shape Tool" icon above the colour picker, which may look like a solid star, solid rectangle, line or solid circle. Select "Ellipse Tool" from the flyout menu.

  4. 4

Position the cursor on the "GoldRing" area, press and hold down the left mouse button and drag to form the ring. The ring appears, but it is a solid circle.

  5. 5

Right-click the Shape 1 layer in the "Layers" palette on the bottom-right of the screen. Select "Rasterize Layer." Click "OK" if Photoshop gives a warning message.

  6. 6

Right-click the marquee tool icon, the second from the top, on the "Tools" palette. Select "Elliptical Marquee Tool" from the flyout menu. Draw a circle inside the gold ring circle. When the blinking dotted lines appear, press the "Delete" key. Now you have an actual ring with a hollow middle.

  7. 7

Double-click the "Shape 1" layer on the "Layers" palette to open the "Layer Style" window.

  8. 8

Check the "Drop Shadow" and "Satin" boxes under the "Styles" column. This gives the ring the metallic look and also makes it appear in 3-D, as if it is resting on the page.

  9. 9

Check either or both of the "Outer Glow" and "Inner Glow" boxes, which adds a metallic shine to the ring. Click the "OK" box when satisfied.

  10. 10

Click the "File" menu. Click "Save As." Select a place to save the gold ring image and click the "Save" button.
