Apple periodically releases firmware updates for its iPhone operating systems. Each firmware update either fixes existing bugs or adds new features to your iPhone. Your default iTunes settings are set to automatically update your iPhone 4 when you open iTunes. For users who jailbreak their iPhone 4s, you need to disable this feature to prevent unauthorised updating of your iPhone. This feature is disabled through the "Preferences" dialogue box.
