  1. 1

Using a Q-tip, scoop up some petroleum jelly and place it in your plastic pot. You can put as much or as little petroleum jelly in the pot as you like. Next, you'll want to mix a few drops of olive oil in with your petroleum jelly. You will want the consistency to be smooth but not wet. Start with two drops, combine the mixture, and add more as you see fit.

  2. 2

Microwave your mixture. This will help to incorporate the petroleum jelly and oil and give it the texture of a lip balm. Make sure you are using a microwave-safe pot. Heat mixture for about 20 seconds. Once the ingredients have been heated, you will notice that the oil will separate a bit. Using your Q-tip, mix the melted ingredients together.

  3. 3

Next add your food colouring. You can use any colour you like but red works best. Start out with a couple of drops, and mix to see if you like the shade. Add as much or as little as you like. The more you add, the more intense the colour will be, so if you want a more subtle, sheer shade, don't get too heavy handed here.

  4. 4

Mix everything together with a Q-tip. Microwave again for 5 to 10 seconds to ensure everything is well incorporated. Let the lip-stain mixture sit until cool. Once your lip stain is cool, you are ready to apply it. The result is a natural lip tint that leaves your lips looking flushed and beautiful.
