How to Do 80s Eye Makeup

Become your own "Material Girl" by recreating the look of the 1980s using bright colours and heavy eyeliner. Showcase your eyes using careful application of your favourite colours -- avoiding browns, tans and taupe, since these colours are too bland for an '80s eye. Apply the eye make-up prior to completing the rest of your face in case you need to rewash and reapply the eye make-up. If you want to complete the face with an '80s vibe, use bold lipstick and heavy blush. If not, keep the lips nude and apply a bronzer to the cheeks.

  1. 1

Start with a clean eyelid and apply primer as the base coat to the '80s eye. The primer can be applied with your fingertip; it will help the shadow stay on longer.

  2. 2

Apply a nude bronzer to the eyelid from the eyelash to the crease of the eye. The bronzer can contain a shimmer, but it is not needed.

  3. 3

Use an eye highlighter brush to apply a light highlighter between the bottom of the eyebrow and the crease of the eye.

  4. 4

Work with your neon yellow eyeshadow first. Neon colours are typically high in pigmentation; therefore, the colour you see in the palette will be the colour that goes on your eye. Dip an eyeshadow brush in the shadow. Gently tap the brush before applying it to the eye, as this will remove any excess powder. Brush the eyelid between the eyelash line and the crease with the yellow eyeshadow.

  5. 5

Apply the neon orange to the crease of the eye and slightly above, almost to the centre of the area between the crease and the bottom of the brow. Use the same method as with the yellow to tap off excess powder before applying it. Carefully use the brush to blend the colours in the crease of the eye to create a smooth transition from one colour to the next.

  6. 6

Line the top of the eyelid, right at the lash line, with the black liquid liner. Use a black kohl pencil to line the top, inner eyelid and inner lower eyelid.

  7. 7

Apply two coats of waterproof black mascara.
