How to Convert OpenOffice Impress to PowerPoint

<p> -- usually called OpenOffice -- is a free computer office suite from Oracle. OpenOffice functions similarly to Microsoft Office and has many of the same features.Impress is OpenOffice's presentation creation component and the equivalent to Microsoft Office's PowerPoint application. Presentations created in Impress can be saved in a file format that makes it easier to use them in PowerPoint.

    Run OpenOffice Impress from your computer in your usual way and wait for OpenOffice to load.

    Select Impress's "File" menu, then select "Open". The Open dialogue will appear on screen. Locate the presentation you wish to convert. Now click the "Open" button to load it into Impress.

    Select Impress's "File" menu, then select "Save As". The Save As dialogue box will appear on screen. Locate the "Save as type" list towards the bottom of the screen and select "Microsoft PowerPoint 97/2000/XP (*.ppt)" from the available options. Click the "Save" button to save your presentation. You can now open this presentation in PowerPoint.

Tips and warnings

  • Presentation formatting can be lost when converting files between different file formats.
