The Compaq Armada E500 is a now-discontinued notebook computer that included at 15-inch dot matrix screen, 128 MB of SDRAM, a 20GB hard drive and a DVD-ROM drive. The E500 shipped standard with the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system, which offers many of the networking and security innovations introduced with Windows NT. One basic security feature is the ability to set a power-on password that must be entered whenever the computer is turned on, before the operating system loads. This password protects your computer from unauthorised access, but can also be a nuisance. Luckily, you the password is quickly removable, although your computer is no longer protected.

    Enter your current password followed by "current password= " at the power-on password entry screen.

  • Do not enter any characters after the "=" to ensure that no password is accidentally set.
