You can make a three-tier cake stand from a variety of materials for a centrepiece display at a formal function or other special event. The cake stands may be used for their original purpose and also to hold a variety of other desserts, such as cupcakes, truffles and petits fours. Regardless of the purpose of the cake stand consider adding decorative embellishments to make it an expression of your own creativity.
Wash each of the glass pieces and make sure all tags and residue is removed.
Place the small, flat-bottomed bowl upside down on a working surface and cover the bottom with a super glue. Center the 12-inch glass plate on top of the bottom of the bowl and press firmly for 20 to 30 seconds.
Apply a layer of super glue around the top rim of a glass ice cream bowl and centre it upside down on top of the 12-inch plate. Press firmly again for 20 to 30 seconds.
Spread a layer of glue on the bottom of the ice cream bowl. Place the 10-inch glass plate on top of the bowl centred in the middle.
Apply glue to the rim of the other ice cream bowl, centre it on top of the 10-inch plate and press firmly. Spread glue on the bottom of the bowl and place the 8-inch glass plate on top.
Cover the top of the cake boards with a decorative wrapping paper.
Cut three pieces of ribbon each equivalent to the circumference of one of the cake boards. Apply a layer of super glue along the centre of each ribbon and wrap them around the sides of the cake boards.
Turn the 10-inch and 8-inch cake boards upside down.
Arrange four cake columns on the bottom of each cake board so they are evenly spaced apart to support the boards. Apply a layer of super glue to the top of each column and press it firmly against the bottom of the cake board. Hold for 30 seconds and then repeat with the remainder of the columns.
Place the 12-inch cake board on a flat surface and assemble the other two tiers on top.
