The Dyson line of vacuums come with multiple filters. Some filters, like the HEPA, are quickly replaced with new filters. The lifetime pre-motor filter is washable. Dyson recommends washing the filter and housing at least every six months. Washing the filter is simply rinsing it under cold water until the water runs clear. Once washed, you must dry the Dyson filter thoroughly before placing it back in the vacuum. Placing a wet or damp filter into the vacuum will cause performance problems. Fortunately, drying a Dyson filter is a simple process.

Squeeze the excess water out of the filter element with your hands. Continue squeezing and releasing the filter until no more water drips from the filter when squeezing.

Tap the filter housing against the sink lightly to remove as much water as possible. Turn the housing over and tap it again.

Place the filter and the filter housing on a flat surface in a warm area. Allow the filter and housing to dry for 12 hours.

Set a hair dryer on the "Low" setting and plug in the dryer power cord, if you need to vacuum sooner than 12 hours. Hold the filter four inches away from the dryer and blow dry the filter. Continue moving the blow dryer back and forth over the filter to prevent scorching the filter. Turn the filter over and dry the other side in the same manner.

Dry the filter housing in the same manner as the filter. Do not put the filter and housing into the Dyson vacuum until they are completely dry.

TIP

It is a good idea to purchase an extra filter and housing for your Dyson vacuum. This way you can install a dry filter while the other is drying.

WARNING

Never place the filter in an oven or clothes dryer.
