Joomla uses templates to create the design of a website. You can either design your own template or download one from some of the many websites that sell templates. Many are available for free, or you can buy a premium template if you require a more professional-looking website. A Joomla template usually comprises three sections, the header, main content section and the footer. A Joomla header usually includes the logo for the website and the top menu.

Things you need
Go to the administration section of your Joomla website and log in using your username and password.
Click on "Extensions" in the top menu, then "Template Manager." Choose the template that is live (as indicated by the image of a star), and click on this template. Click on "Edit HTML" on the top-right menu. This will open the template code so that it can be edited.
Make the changes needed to the header section of the template, which is located near the top of the page.
Save the template by clicking "Save." This will save the changes and close the file. You can also click on "Apply," which will save the changes but leave the file open for editing.
Test that the changes are made correctly by viewing the website in your browser.
