A wedding invitation response is something that many people procrastinate doing, especially if the invitation requires a handwritten response. However, responding to a wedding in a prompt manner is very important to the bride and groom so that they can finalise all of the arrangements. Sending back the RSVP card is easy and only takes a few minutes, even if you have to hand write the response.

Instructions

  1. 1

Most wedding invitations will come with a response card and a self-addressed, stamped envelope for you to use. In this case, all you need to do is fill the number of people attending and your names. Place this response card into the enclosed self-addressed, stamped envelope and put it in the mail as soon as possible.

  2. 2

If the wedding invitation does not include a response card, you will need to hand write a response and mail it to the return address displayed on the invitation's envelope. An example of a handwritten acceptance would be:

    Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith

    graciously accept

    the kind invitation of

    Mr. and Mrs. Baker

          for

    Saturday, the seventeenth of June

at two o'clock in the afternoon

  3. 3

If you will not be attending the wedding, and need to hand write a response, it could look like this:

    Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith

regret that they are unable to accept

    the kind invitation of

    Mr. and Mrs. Baker

          for

    Saturday, the seventeenth of June

at two o'clock in the afternoon

  4. 4

If you will be attending the wedding but your significant other is unable, you would write:

    Mr. Joe Smith

    accepts with pleasure

    the kind invitation of

    Mr. and Mrs. Baker

    for

    Saturday, the seventeenth of June

at two o'clock in the afternoon

    Mrs. Joe Smith

regrets that she is unable to attend

  5. 5

In your handwritten response, be sure to thank the sender and sign your name. Place the response in the mail as soon as possible as not to delay the bride and groom from finalising their arrangements.

Tips and warnings

  • Do not bring children to a wedding unless they are specifically listed as invited guests on the invitation. There is nothing more rude than showing up to a wedding with children that were not invited.
