Whether it is a handpainted piece of artwork or a treasured deck that you have retired, you can hang skateboard decks on your wall just like a canvas or picture frame. Skateboards have holes in the deck for the trucks, so you can used these holes and standard skateboard truck bolts combined with picture hanging wire to mount skateboard decks to a wall in a professional looking way. The wire will be concealed and hung on a nail just like you would any other piece of artwork.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

Things you need

  • Skate deck
  • 2 skateboard truck bolts, with nuts
  • Picture hanging wire
  • Wire cutters
  • Skateboard wrench

  • Pencil

  1. 1

Place the skate deck on a work surface. Orient the deck on the work surface the way you want it mounted to the wall. Slide one skateboard truck bolt through the front side of one mounting hole on either side of the board. Turn the board over and thread a nut onto the end of each bolt. Hand tighten the bolt. Leave approximately a 1/16-inch gap between the deck and the nut.

  2. 2

Wrap one end of the picture hanging wire around one bolt in the 1/16-inch gap and wrap it around itself two to three times to secure it to the bolt. Pull the wire across the deck to the other bolt. Pull the wire up in the centre of the deck so that the wire is approximately one inch from the top edge of the board and wrap the wire around the second bolt in the same procedure as the first. Cut the excess wire off.

  3. 3

Tighten the truck bolt nuts with a skateboard wrench to further secure the wire to the deck.

  4. 4

Slide a stud finder along the wall in the area you want to mount the skate deck. Mark the stud location as indicated by the stud finder onto the wall with a pencil at the height you want the deck mounted.

  5. 5

Hammer a finish nail into the marked stud location. Leave the nail sticking out approximately 3/4 to 1 inch.

  6. 6

Lift the deck up and hang the wire on the nail. Adjust the wire positioning on the nail so the deck is centred and level.

Tips and warnings

  • Hang a series of three to create a gallery look in any room.
  • Wear eye protection when cutting wire and hammering nails.
