Every time you tan, there is damage being done to the skin. That is true whether the tanning takes place outside in the sun, or in a tanning bed. As tanning beds often exceed the safe amounts of UVA rays, there can be more damage done. When someone tans frequently, one of the tell tale signs is dry, leathery, wrinkled skin. To tan in a tanning bed without getting wrinkles, nourish your body on the inside as well as the outside.

  1. 1

Add healthy fats to your diet. Stick with foods that contain omega-3 fats, such as avocado, coconut oil and fish. Don't overdo it, but add just a bit to each meal. This helps to keep skin and hair in optimal condition.

  2. 2

Drink a minimum of 10 to 12 glasses of water per day. It is especially important on the days that you go tanning. Water moisturises and hydrates the skin.

  3. 3

Apply tanning bed lotion before every tanning session. These lotions are specifically designed for use with tanning beds and contain nourishing ingredients, such as coconut oil, to prevent skin damage. After each tanning session, apply after-tan lotion all over your body and face.

  4. 4

Wear large tanning goggles, which are larger than the standard goggles that you use when tanning in a tanning bed. Wrinkles commonly form around the eyes. Larger goggles protect the delicate eye tissue from getting wrinkles.

  5. 5

Apply moisturiser to face and body every morning and evening. For the body, choose a lotion that contains nourishing ingredients such as Shea butter. For the face, choose a moisturiser targeted for the face. An anti-ageing moisturiser is perfect.

Tips and warnings

  • Tanning in a tanning bed can lead to cancer. If you have moles and they begin to change shape or colour, contact a doctor right away.
