How to Block Porn Using the BT Internet

When you are using BT Internet, or any other Internet service, you must take proactive measures to protect yourself and your family from porn sites. BT Internet provides a browser to consumers that will allow porn blocking. Internet Explorer also has a built-in feature that allows you to block pornography. Third-party software is another option for blocking porn access.

Open your BT Yahoo! Internet browser. Click the "Parental Controls" button located on the top toolbar.

Click the "Activate" button to activate parental controls. Select the "Add an Account" button to add the names of family members for whom you would like to block porn sites.

Click the name of each family member to customise control settings. To block all pornographic sites, set the "Access Level" to "Kids" or "Teens."

Open your Internet Explorer browser. Click the "Tools" option from the top menu bar. Select "Internet Options."

Click the "Content" tab. Click the "Enable" button that is located in the "Content Advisor" section. You will then be able to create a password.

Select the "Ratings" tab in the Content Advisor window. Scroll through the options listed in the "Category" box. Select "Nudity."

Locate the slider bar that is beneath the category box. Drag the slider bar all the way to the left. This indicates that you desire all websites containing nudity to be blocked. Repeat this step for the "Sexual Material" category.

Click "Apply" and save your changes. Click "OK" to close the Content Advisor window.

Download and install a third-party software onto your computer that will allow you to block pornographic sites. A few examples of paid software you can download are APE (Automated Porn Eliminator), NetDog, FilterGate and AntiPorn (see link in Resources). Examples of free software you can download are K9 Web Protection and Parental Filter (see Resources).

Open the software program on your computer. Select the option to configure software settings. The exact location for this option will vary by software program. Refer to the software instructions for further details.

Customise the software settings to appease your desires. For instance, you can select the option to block all sexual content or only sites that contain nudity.
